Finding an NA Meeting in San Jose

The finder at the top of this page shows meetings near a location, not only those with a San Jose mailing address. That is intentional. A meeting a few minutes over the city line is often the most convenient option, so the results include nearby groups as well as ones inside San Jose.

For a San Jose resident, that usually means meetings in Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Campbell, Cupertino, Milpitas, and Los Gatos, and south toward Morgan Hill and Gilroy.

The Greater San Jose Area covers San Jose with Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, Saratoga, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, Milpitas, San Martin, Morgan Hill, and Gilroy. Across the city and this surrounding area, you will find open and closed meetings, discussion and speaker meetings, and Basic Text and step study groups, along with women’s, men’s, LGBTQ+, and young people’s meetings.

The finder also lists online meetings you can join from anywhere. Use the format filters to narrow the list, or call the Greater San Jose Area 24-hour helpline at (408) 998-4200 to ask about a specific meeting. New to NA? Drug Use and Overdose in Santa Clara County

Overdose deaths have fallen sharply across the country over the past two years, and Santa Clara County reflects that shift. Locally, fentanyl-involved deaths peaked in 2022 and have since declined, while methamphetamine has become the substance most often recorded on overdose death certificates in the county. The risk is real, and it is also more survivable when naloxone and treatment are close at hand.

Treatment Options In and Near San Jose

Narcotics Anonymous works well alongside professional treatment, and many people use both. Care is usually described in levels. Medically supervised detox to manage withdrawal, residential or inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and standard outpatient programs.

The right care level depends on the substance, health history, and support at home, and people often step down from one level to the next. For opioid use disorder, medications such as methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone are the evidence-based standard of care. They reduce cravings and overdose risk, and they are meant to complement peer support like NA, not replace it.

To find local programs, you can search FindTreatment.gov by ZIP code, call the free, confidential SAMHSA National Helpline at 1-800-662-4357 (available 24/7), or reach the Santa Clara County Behavioral Health Call Center at (800) 704-0900 for a referral to detox, residential, or outpatient care.

Naloxone and Harm Reduction

Naloxone (Narcan) reverses an opioid overdose within minutes and is safe to give even if you are not sure opioids are involved. In California, anyone can buy it over the counter at a pharmacy, and it is also available free from several places in and around San Jose. Because its effect lasts only 30 to 90 minutes, always call 911 after giving a dose.

  • County of Santa Clara Harm Reduction Program: the county’s authorized syringe services program, offering free naloxone, fentanyl and xylazine test strips, sterile supplies, and HIV and hepatitis C testing. It is anonymous and does not require ID.
  • Harm reduction vending machine, Lenzen Health Center: free naloxone and test strips at 976 Lenzen Avenue, San Jose.
  • Free Narcan by mail (SCCOOPP): kits and training through the county’s mail-in program; call (408) 272-6055.
  • County Behavioral Health clinics: free Narcan kits and fentanyl test strips.
  • Any California pharmacy: naloxone nasal spray over the counter, no prescription needed.
  • ODFreeSCC.org: the county’s overdose-prevention hub, with an interactive map of nearby naloxone and resource locations.

California’s 911 Good Samaritan law (AB 472) provides limited protection from arrest or prosecution for low-level drug offenses when you seek emergency help for an overdose, so calling for help is the safest choice. For more on recognizing and responding to an overdose, see our overdose guide.
