About NA Meetings in San Diego
Narcotics Anonymous is a free, peer-led fellowship for people who want to stop using drugs. In San Diego, meetings are part of the San Diego and Imperial Counties Region of NA, and you can attend in person across the city or join an online meeting from home. There are no dues or fees, and no one needs a referral to walk in.
Finding an NA Meeting in San Diego
The meeting finder above shows NA meetings near the location you enter, ranked by distance rather than by city limits. That is useful in a place as large as San Diego, because a meeting a few minutes away in a neighboring community may be a better fit than one across town.
Depending on where you search from, results can include meetings in San Diego neighborhoods such as Downtown, Hillcrest, North Park, Normal Heights, and Pacific Beach, along with nearby communities like Coronado, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, and National City.
Meetings in and around San Diego run in a wide range of formats. You will find open meetings, which anyone can attend, and closed meetings, meant for people who use drugs or think they may have a drug problem, along with discussion, speaker, and candlelight meetings and Basic Text and step study meetings.
Special-purpose meetings include women’s, men’s, LGBTQ+, and young people’s meetings, and newcomer-friendly and virtual meetings appear among the nearby options. The region also has a Spanish-speaking Area with meetings in Spanish.
To talk with someone in recovery or get help finding a meeting, call the region’s helpline at 619-584-1007, or text your ZIP code to the same number for a list of nearby meetings. A Spanish-language helpline is available at 619-546-0774. The regional website, sandiegona.org, lists current meetings, including online options.
Drug Use and Overdose in San Diego County
Overdose deaths have fallen sharply across the country over the past two years. Nationally, the CDC’s provisional data count about 69,147 drug overdose deaths in the 12 months ending January 2026, down roughly 13% from the year before and continuing a multi-year national decline.
That decline has reached San Diego County as well, where fentanyl remains the drug most often involved in accidental overdose deaths. Wider access to naloxone, treatment, and harm reduction is credited with saving lives, and community support like NA is part of that broader effort.
The San Diego figure is county-level. City-specific overdose counts are not published separately.
Treatment Options In and Near San Diego
Support groups like NA work well alongside professional treatment, and many people use both. Treatment for drug use runs along a range of options, from medical detox and inpatient or residential care to outpatient programs and ongoing counseling.
For opioid use disorder, medications such as methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone are the evidence-based standard of care. Medication for opioid use disorder and NA are complementary. The first provides medical treatment and the second provides peer support, and neither rules out the other.
San Diego has a large number of treatment providers, including opioid treatment programs that offer methadone, clinicians who prescribe buprenorphine, and detox and residential facilities.
To find options near you, SAMHSA’s FindTreatment.gov lets you search by ZIP code and filter by the services you need. You can also call the free, confidential SAMHSA National Helpline at 1-800-662-4357, which operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in English and Spanish.
Naloxone and Harm Reduction
Naloxone, often sold as Narcan, is a nasal spray that can reverse an opioid overdose, including one caused by fentanyl. In California, naloxone nasal spray is available over the counter without a prescription, and free naloxone is distributed across all 58 counties through the state’s Naloxone Distribution Project. In San Diego County, you can get it free at several places:
- County community sites and clinics: The County offers free nasal naloxone to the public at community-based locations and clinics across the region.
- Sheriff’s stations: Every San Diego County Sheriff’s station and substation gives out free naloxone kits to anyone who asks.
- Pharmacies: Over-the-counter naloxone is sold at most pharmacies, and a pharmacist can help you find it.
- By mail: NEXT Distro provides naloxone by mail to Californians who cannot pick it up in person.
California’s Good Samaritan overdose law offers limited protection from drug-possession charges for people who call 911 to report an overdose, so calling for help is the safest thing to do. To learn how to recognize an overdose and use naloxone, see our fentanyl and overdose guide.
