About NA Meetings in Torrance
Narcotics Anonymous is a peer fellowship designed for anyone who wants to stop using drugs. There are no dues, and you don’t need a referral to attend. The only requirement for NA membership is a desire to stop using drugs.
Torrance is located in the Bay Cities Area of NA, which coordinates groups across the coastal South Bay. The city has one of the fuller local schedules in that area.
- NA area: Bay Cities Area, Southern California Region
- Meeting formats: Open and closed, discussion, topic, step study, Basic Text and Living Clean study, women’s
- Virtual meetings: Available; several Torrance groups are hybrid
Finding an NA Meeting in Torrance
The finder searches by proximity rather than by city line, so a search centered on Torrance will also list meetings in neighboring South Bay communities. This is done on purpose because groups in Lomita, Gardena and Redondo Beach are all a short drive away, and Hawthorne is located just north. Widening the radius is often the fastest way to find a meeting at a time that works for you.
Torrance itself hosts seven weekly NA meetings across four venues as of September 2026. These locations include parks, an Alano club and a community space. Meetings in and around the city include open and closed formats, discussion and topic meetings, step study and Basic Text and Living Clean study groups. There’s also a women’s meeting in the city, and several groups run as hybrid, so you can join in person or online. Some venues note that they feature wheelchair access.
You can call the Bay Cities Area helpline (310) 372-9666 to get current times or to talk to someone local. The Southern California Region offers a 24-hour line at 1-800-863-2962, with a Spanish-language line at 1-888-622-4672. You can also browse the full California directory.
Drug Use and Overdose in Los Angeles County
Overdose deaths have been falling nationally for several years. Los Angeles County has followed that trend, with three consecutive annual declines.
- 67,798 predicted drug overdose deaths in the United States for the 12 months ending March 2026, a 12.1 percent decline on the previous year. CDC, National Center for Health Statistics, provisional data released August 2026.
- 2,298 accidental drug overdose and poisoning deaths in Los Angeles County in 2025, down 6 percent from 2,438 in 2024 and nearly 30 percent below the 2022 peak of 3,220. Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Data Report: Drug Overdoses in Los Angeles County, June 2026.
These are county-level figures. City-level overdose data is generally suppressed for populations this size.
Torrance is located within the county’s South Bay and Harbor service planning area. The overdose rate in this region has tracked slightly below the county average over the past decade. Drug overdose has been the leading cause of accidental death countywide since 2017, so the lower numbers matter but they don’t mean the problem has gone away.
Treatment Options In and Near Torrance
NA is something you atttend alongside clinical treatment rather than in place of it. The levels of care you can access in Torrance range from outpatient counselling to intensive outpatient and residential programs to medically supervised withdrawal.
Treatment for opioid use disorder includes medications such as methadone, buprenorphine and naltrexone. These are the evidence-based standard of care, and many people in NA use them. Attending meetings while taking prescribed medication is common and supported.
Los Angeles County residents can reach treatment through the county’s Substance Abuse Service Helpline at 1-844-804-7500 which is staffed 24 hours a day. This line screens callers and refers them directly to a provider in the county network.
Free treatment is available to eligible residents regardless of immigration status. Outpatient providers and opioid treatment programs operate across the South Bay, and Torrance is served by a large regional hospital with an emergency department if care is needed urgently.
Use SAMHSA’s FindTreatment.gov to search by address or ZIP or call the SAMHSA National Helpline on 1-800-662-4357.
Naloxone and Harm Reduction
Naloxone reverses an opioid overdose, and it’s safe to give even if you’re not sure what someone has taken. In California it is available over the counter without a prescription, and the state distributes it free through the Department of Health Care Services Naloxone Distribution Project.
This project supplies the medicaiton to clinics, first responders and community organizations. The CalRx program has also reduced the retail price of naloxone.
- Pharmacies: Sold over the counter statewide, no prescription needed.
- Community organizations and clinics: Free supplies distributed under California’s standing order.
- County self-service stations: Los Angeles County operates public health kiosks that dispense naloxone and fentanyl test strips at no cost.
California’s Good Samaritan protections mean someone seeking medical help for an overdose is shielded from certain drug charges. Calling 911 is the right thing to do.
