About NA Meetings in Los Angeles
Narcotics Anonymous is a free, peer-led fellowship for anyone who wants to stop using drugs. There are no dues, no fees, and no requirement other than a desire to stop. Los Angeles is covered by several NA area service committees within the Southern California Region of Narcotics Anonymous, including the Greater Los Angeles, Westside, Greater Hollywood, Greater East Los Angeles, and San Fernando Valley areas. Meetings run every day across the city and the wider county, both in person and online, so you can usually find one that fits your schedule and your neighborhood.

Finding an NA Meeting in Los Angeles
The meeting finder above shows NA meetings near the location you search, not only those with a Los Angeles mailing address. That matters in a city this large. If the closest group to you sits just over a neighborhood or city line, the finder still surfaces it, which is often how people find their regular meeting. Searching from a Los Angeles ZIP code will typically pull in groups across Hollywood, Downtown, the Westside communities of Santa Monica, Culver City, and Venice, South Los Angeles, East Los Angeles, and the San Fernando Valley towns of North Hollywood, Van Nuys, and Sherman Oaks, along with nearby cities like Pasadena, Glendale, Burbank, Inglewood, Long Beach, and Whittier.
Meetings around Los Angeles come in a wide range of formats. You will find open meetings (anyone may attend) and closed meetings (for people who use drugs or think they might have a problem), along with discussion, speaker, candlelight, and meditation formats, and groups that read from the Basic Text and work through the steps. Special-population meetings are well represented across the area, including beginner and newcomer groups, women’s and men’s meetings, LGBTQ+ meetings, and young people’s meetings. Spanish-language groups meet throughout Los Angeles, and the region maintains a Spanish-language helpline. Virtual and hybrid meetings are also available if you cannot travel or prefer to start from home.
For help finding a meeting by phone, the Southern California Region operates a 24-hour NA helpline at 1-800-863-2962 (in Spanish, 1-888-622-4672). A volunteer can point you to current times and locations near you.
Drug Use and Overdose in Los Angeles County
The picture in Los Angeles has started to improve after years of rising overdose deaths. Nationally, the U.S. recorded a sharp turn in 2024, and Los Angeles County followed the same trend, which public health officials credit in large part to wider naloxone access and expanded treatment and harm reduction. The numbers below are for Los Angeles County, since overdose deaths are reported at the county level rather than for the city of Los Angeles on its own.
County-level figures. Los Angeles County Department of Public Health does not publish separate overdose counts for the city of Los Angeles.
Even with this progress, fentanyl was still involved in about half of all accidental overdose deaths in the county in 2024, and the risk remains serious across every part of Los Angeles. If you or someone you know uses drugs, carrying naloxone and knowing the signs of an overdose are practical steps that save lives.
Treatment Options In and Near Los Angeles
NA works well alongside professional treatment, and many people use both. Treatment in and around Los Angeles spans several levels of care: medically supervised detox for withdrawal, residential or inpatient programs, and outpatient care that lets you live at home while attending regular sessions. A clinician can help you decide which level fits your situation.
For opioid use disorder, medications for opioid use disorder (methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone) are the evidence-based standard of care, backed by SAMHSA and the National Institute on Drug Abuse. These medications are a complement to NA, not a replacement for it, and attending meetings while taking prescribed medication is fully consistent with recovery.
To find local programs, you can search by ZIP code at FindTreatment.gov or call the free, confidential SAMHSA National Helpline at 1-800-662-4357, available 24/7. Los Angeles County residents can also reach the county’s Substance Abuse Service Helpline (SASH) at 1-844-804-7500, a 24/7 line that screens for and connects eligible callers to no-cost treatment across the county.
Naloxone and Harm Reduction
Naloxone reverses an opioid overdose and is safe to give to someone even if you are not certain opioids are involved. In California, it is widely available and there are several ways to get it:
- Pharmacies: Naloxone nasal spray (Narcan and generic versions) is sold over the counter at pharmacies statewide, with no prescription needed.
- Free county access: Los Angeles County’s Substance Abuse Prevention and Control program provides naloxone education and distribution through harm reduction and syringe services programs. RecoverLA.org lists local pickup options and overdose prevention resources.
- State distribution: California’s Naloxone Distribution Project supplies free naloxone through community organizations, and has reported more than 400,000 overdose reversals since 2018.
California’s Good Samaritan protections mean that a person acting in good faith to help during an overdose is shielded from certain liability, so the priority in an emergency is always to call 911 and give naloxone. To learn the signs of an overdose and how to respond, see our overdose and naloxone guide.
