About NA Meetings in Sacramento
Narcotics Anonymous is a free, peer-led fellowship for anyone who wants to stop using drugs. There are no dues and no sign-up, and the only requirement to attend is a desire to stop.
Meetings in and around Sacramento are supported by the American River Area of Narcotics Anonymous (ARANA), which carries the local NA message across Sacramento, Placer, and Yolo counties. You can attend in person or online, and family members are welcome at open meetings.
Finding an NA Meeting in Sacramento
The finder above shows meetings near your location, not only the ones listed inside the Sacramento city limits. That is deliberate. If you live close to a city line, or a meeting a few minutes away fits your schedule better, proximity search puts it within reach.
Alongside meetings listed in Sacramento, you will often see nearby options in Citrus Heights, Carmichael, Rancho Cordova, Fair Oaks, Orangevale, Folsom, Elk Grove, and North Highlands.
Sacramento has one of the fuller NA schedules in Northern California. Listings in the city include open and beginner meetings, discussion and speaker formats, candlelight meetings, Basic Text and step study groups, and separate women’s and men’s meetings.
Some groups welcome children. Online meetings are available across the American River Area for anyone who cannot attend in person or would rather start from home. For a current schedule by day and format, call or text your ZIP code to the ARANA helpline at 1-800-600-4673.
If this is your first time, our overview of what happens at an NA meeting walks through the format so you know what to expect before you walk in.
Drug Use and Overdose in Sacramento County
The overdose picture has improved. After years of rising deaths, drug overdose deaths in the United States fell for a third straight year, and Sacramento County has followed the same downward trend. The numbers are still serious, and fentanyl remains the main driver of overdose deaths locally, but the direction has changed.
County-level figures. City-specific overdose counts are not published separately, so Sacramento County data is the most locally reliable measure available.
The decline appears to be continuing. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office recorded 76 fentanyl-related deaths in the first four months of 2025, down from 112 in the same period a year earlier. Some of the sharpest local drops were in Sacramento neighborhoods that had been hit hardest, including Del Paso Heights and Old North Sacramento.
Treatment Options In and Near Sacramento
NA works alongside professional treatment rather than replacing it. Many people combine meetings with medical care, and the two support each other. Treatment in the Sacramento area covers the full range of care, including outpatient counseling, intensive outpatient programs, withdrawal management (medically supervised detox), residential treatment, and perinatal services.
For opioid use disorder, medications for opioid use disorder are the evidence-based standard of care. Methadone, buprenorphine (often prescribed as Suboxone), and naltrexone reduce cravings and lower the risk of overdose, according to SAMHSA. These medications are compatible with attending NA. You can take prescribed medication and take part in meetings.
To find local programs, Sacramento County’s Behavioral Health Services Screening and Coordination team offers 24/7 phone screening and referral to county-contracted providers at (916) 875-1055. You can also search any ZIP code on FindTreatment.gov or call the free, confidential SAMHSA National Helpline at 1-800-662-4357.
Naloxone and Harm Reduction
Naloxone, sold as Narcan, is a nasal spray that can reverse an opioid overdose within minutes. It is safe to use and has no effect if opioids are not present, so there is no harm in giving it to someone who may be overdosing. Keeping naloxone on hand is a practical safety step for anyone who uses drugs or lives with someone who does.
In and around Sacramento, you can get naloxone at no cost from:
- Sacramento County Substance Use Prevention and Treatment: Free naloxone by phone at (916) 875-2050 or through SaferSacramento.com.
- Harm Reduction Services (Sacramento): Free naloxone, fentanyl test strips, and related support for people who use drugs.
- California pharmacies and CalRx: Naloxone is sold over the counter without a prescription, and California residents can order CalRx nasal spray online for $19 as of January 2026, per CDPH.
California’s 911 Good Samaritan law gives limited protection from drug-possession charges to people who call for help during an overdose, so calling 911 is always the right move. To learn the signs of an overdose and how to respond, see our guide to recognizing and reversing an opioid overdose.
