Drug Use and Overdose in Alameda County

Nationally, overdose deaths have fallen for three consecutive years. The trend in Alameda County has moved the other direction over the same period. This increase is driven largely by fentanyl and by overdoses involving both opioids and stimulants. The figures below are represent the county geography rather than Dublin since city overdose data is not available.

Treatment Options In and Near Dublin

Meetings and clinical treatment work to support your recovery and many people use both. Clinical treatment is often necessary during your recovery and is typically described in different levels.

Most people begin with medically supervised withdrawal management followed by residential treatment, intensive outpatient programs, and standard outpatient counseling.

Treatment with medications approved by the FDA is also common and includes methadone, buprenorphine and naltrexone. These are the standard of care and taking one of them does not conflict with working an NA program.

The main local access for treatment centers for Tri-Valley residents is Axis Community Health. This is a federally qualified health center with addiction counseling sites in Pleasanton and Livermore. They also offer a mental health urgent care service for people living in Dublin, Pleasanton and Livermore.

Axis offers counseling, drug testing and medication treatment using buprenorphine. This works on a sliding scale for people without insurance. Axis does not provide methadone. This means a methadone program means traveling further into the county. You can reach them at 925-462-1755.

Naloxone and Harm Reduction

Naloxone reverses an opioid overdose and is safe to carry and safe to use when you are not certain what someone has taken. Nasal naloxone is sold over the counter at pharmacies without a prescription. Free naloxone reaches community organizations statewide through the California Department of Health Care Services Naloxone Distribution Project where you can also receive fentanyl test strips.
