Finding an NA Meeting in Detroit

The meeting finder shows NA meetings near a location within the radius you choose, not only meetings whose address falls inside the Detroit city limits. That is intended.

Detroit sits at the center of a dense metro area, so a meeting in Hamtramck, Highland Park, Dearborn, or a northern suburb may be closer to you than one across town. Widening the radius usually gives you more days, times, and formats to choose from.

Because the search reaches across city lines, the meetings you see near Detroit often include neighboring communities such as Hamtramck, Highland Park, Dearborn, Ferndale, Royal Oak, Southfield, Warren, the Grosse Pointes, and the downriver suburbs like Lincoln Park and Taylor. As of July 2026, around 60 weekly NA meetings are listed in Detroit itself, with dozens more across Wayne County and the surrounding metro.

The meetings around Detroit cover a range of formats, so you can find one that fits how you want to start:

  • Open
  • Closed
  • Discussion
  • Speaker
  • Basic Text and step study
  • LGBTQ+
  • Children welcome
  • Virtual

Open meetings welcome anyone, including family members and people who are unsure whether NA is right for them. Closed meetings are for people who use drugs or think they might have a problem.

Detroit meetings include LGBTQ+ groups and women’s meetings run at the area level in nearby Wayne County communities. Virtual and hybrid options run at many hours, which helps if you cannot travel or need a meeting late at night.

NA reads from its own literature, including the Basic Text and Just for Today.

If you want a person to talk to while you look, the Metro Detroit Region of NA runs a volunteer helpline 24 hours a day at 248-543-7200. Callers can ask for meeting times, locations, and directions. 800-934-1582(Sponsored)

Drug Use and Overdose in Wayne County

The overdose picture around Detroit has been improving. After years of rising deaths driven mostly by fentanyl, both the country and the state recorded sharp declines in 2024. Wayne County saw one of the largest drops in Michigan.

~27%
Drop in US drug overdose deaths in 2024, the largest one-year decline recorded
CDC, provisional data, 2024
~34%
Fewer overdose deaths in Michigan from 2023 to 2024, a third straight year of decline
Michigan Dept. of Health and Human Services, provisional 2024
43%
Decline in Wayne County overdose deaths in 2024, though the county still records Michigan’s highest total
Wayne County Health, Human & Veterans Services, 2024

Wayne County figures are county-level and include Detroit. City-only counts are not reported separately, so the county numbers are the most reliable local measure.

Fentanyl remains the main driver of overdose risk locally. Wayne County’s harm reduction program reports that roughly four out of five overdose deaths in the county involve fentanyl, a synthetic opioid often mixed into other drugs without the person knowing. That is why naloxone and fentanyl test strips, covered below, matter for anyone who uses drugs or lives with someone who does.

Treatment Options In and Near Detroit

NA works well alongside professional treatment, and many people use both. Treatment in the Detroit area spans several levels of care: medically supervised detox, inpatient and residential rehab, intensive outpatient programs, and standard outpatient counseling. Which level fits depends on the substance, how long someone has used, and their health and living situation.

For opioid use disorder, medications are the evidence-based standard of care. Methadone, buprenorphine (often sold as Suboxone), and naltrexone (Vivitrol) reduce cravings and withdrawal and lower the risk of fatal overdose.

These medications are a complement to NA, not a replacement for it, and attending meetings while taking prescribed medication is common. Detroit has multiple opioid treatment programs and outpatient providers, and organizations such as the Detroit Recovery Project offer local support.

To find licensed treatment near you, SAMHSA’s FindTreatment.gov lets you search by ZIP code and filter by the services you need. The free, confidential SAMHSA National Helpline at 1-800-662-4357 operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in English and Spanish, and can refer you to local programs.

Naloxone and Harm Reduction

Naloxone (Narcan) is a nasal spray that reverses an opioid overdose. It is safe, it cannot be misused, and it has no effect on someone who has no opioids in their system. In an emergency, it can save a life while you wait for help to arrive. It is widely available around Detroit:

  • Any Michigan pharmacy: Naloxone is available without a prescription under the state’s standing order, and it is also sold over the counter.
  • Well Wayne Stations: Wayne County’s public health vending machines and newsstand-style dispensers offer free naloxone and fentanyl test strips across the county. Find locations at endoverdosewayne.org.
  • Community organizations: Local recovery and harm reduction groups often provide free kits and brief training on how to use them.

Michigan’s Good Samaritan law, passed in 2016, protects people who call for medical help during an overdose from certain drug-possession charges, and state law provides civil immunity to anyone who administers naloxone in good faith. Calling 911 is the priority.

Detroit NA Meetings FAQ

Are there NA meetings in Detroit?

Yes. Around 60 weekly NA meetings are listed in Detroit as of July 2026, with many more in nearby Wayne County communities and across the metro. The finder above shows current meetings near you.

Are NA meetings free?

Yes. Narcotics Anonymous has no dues or fees. A basket is usually passed so the group can cover expenses like rent and coffee, but contributing is voluntary and never required for attendance.

What if there is no meeting at the time I need one?

Because the finder searches by proximity, widening the radius brings in meetings from neighboring communities. Virtual NA meetings also run at many hours, so there is usually something available even late at night.

Is NA religious?

No. NA describes itself as a spiritual rather than religious program. It is open to people of any faith or none, and the idea of a higher power is left for each person to define for themselves.

Do I have to stop using drugs before I attend?

No. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop using. You are welcome at open meetings even if you are still using or unsure about stopping.

Are there LGBTQ+ or women’s meetings near Detroit?

Yes. Detroit meetings include LGBTQ+ groups, and women’s meetings run at the area level in nearby Wayne County communities. Use the finder’s filters or call the Metro Detroit helpline at 248-543-7200 to locate one.
