Treatment Options In and Around Davie

Treatment and NA are not alternatives to one another. In many cases, people who attend NA in Davie are also in outpatient care or recently out of detox. The program does not ask anyone to choose. Harm Reduction Including Naloxone Access in Broward County

Broward County’s free naloxone program runs out of two health department pharmacies, neither of them in Davie. They are located just a short drive north of town, and neither asks for an appointment.

Under Florida’s Good Samaritan protection, section 893.21 of the Florida Statutes, a person who seeks medical help in good faith during an overdose cannot be arrested, charged or prosecuted for drug possession or paraphernalia because they called. Is NA affiliated with a certain religion?

No. NA describes itself as spiritual rather than religious. It is not connected to any church or denomination. Members are asked to work out their own understanding of a higher power.  For many, that understanding is the group itself, an idea or nothing more defined than the honesty of the room. In fact, people who are atheist or agnostic attend NA.

I’m still using; can I go to an NA meeting?

Yes, and many people come to their first meeting while they are still using. The only requirement for joining NA is the desire to stop using. Because withdrawal can be medically risky, you should contact a medical provider or call the SAMHSA National Helpline at 1-800-662-4357 or a treatment provider first, because some withdrawal symptoms require medical support.
