People with opioid addictions in East Multnomah County have a new treatment option close to home. New Season Treatment Center opened its location in Gresham at 2222 E. Powell Boulevard. To be clear, Oregon has many programs in place already, from inpatient services to local Narcotics Anonymous chapters. However, this medical outpatient facility fills a local gap so that many patients no longer need to drive into Portland metro for care.

The New Gresham Center

The free-standing center at the corner of Powell and Southeast Renew Avenue provides medication-assisted treatment, addiction counseling and recovery support to address the physical and behavioral sides of opioid use disorders. The building offers onsite parking and sits next to a bus stop to ease traffic and transportation concerns among locals.

“Opening this new clinic is a vital step forward in our mission to dismantle the stigmas and barriers surrounding addiction treatment,” noted Program Director Angela Cave. 

The center is open Monday through Saturday. New Season’s staffers pointed out that the location brings care into an accessible community setting. The ultimate goal remains to drive overdose and death rates down. 

Medication-Assisted Treatment Close to Home

Medication-assisted treatment, or MAT, combines medications with counseling and behavioral support. Prescriptions reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms and lower overdose risk. 

Evidence consistently shows folks on MAT stay in treatment longer and survive at higher rates than those who try to stop without medication.

Accessing MAT can be tricky for Oregonians. Every extra mile between a person and their daily or weekly medication raises the odds of a missed dose or appointment and a return to use. Oregon has responded; a MAT clinic opened in Medford recently, and another in Gresham can help residents work around personal schedules.

Harm Reduction and Peer Support

Naloxone remains essential. The medication reverses opioid overdoses and is safe to administer even if opioids aren’t present. Naloxone is increasingly available without a prescription at Oregon pharmacies. 

Peer support matters too. Narcotics Anonymous meetings run throughout the Portland metro area and across Oregon.

Anyone impacted by opioid addictions shouldn’t wait to access care. Alongside clinical care available at New Season and other treatment centers, local NA groups offer fellowship among neighbors and community members. These bonds often last for life, well after you graduate from a program.
