NA meetings in Milwaukee
In Milwaukee, you’ll find one of the largest Wisconsin NA schedules. Groups meet in the city most days of the week and in a variety of formats. This means you can try different types of meetings before settling on a home group.
It’s common to drive into Milwaukee from the suburbs to find more options for weeknight meeings. If you want even more options, some people look to Kenosha or west toward Madison for more meetings. Online NA meetings are also available.
You can check out the full Wisconsin meeting list if you’re going to be in other parts of the state. Check the current listings above to see what’s meeting today.
What an NA meeting Is Like
NA meetings are rooms of people who share the desire to stop using drugs. Anyone is welcome at open meetings, including family members who want to learn more. Closed meetings are for individuals who want to stop using.
Speaker meetings allow one or two people to share their story. Discussion meetings allow the group to talk about a specific topic. Step studies work through NA’s 12 Steps one at a time.
The Narcotics Anonymous fellowship follows these same formats wherever you go.
Regardless of the format, you don’t have to speak. You can simply sit, listen and leave without saying a word. No one asks you to give more than a first name, if that. And there’s no cost to attend or registration form to sign.
No one is turned away due to relapse or lack of sobriety time. The only requirement is that you want to stop using drugs.
Getting to an NA Meeting in Milwaukee
You’ll find that NA groups in Milwaukee are spread across town rather than concentrated in one part of the city. This means a car can be helpful, although it’s not your only option. Several meetings are located near bus routes.
If you don’t have reliable transportation, finding a meeting close to home or work is your best bet. Online meetings also offer other options.
When a Meeting Isn’t Enough
You’ll receive peer support at NA but not medical treatment. Withdrawal from opioids or benzodiazepines can be dangerous without medical supervision. It’s best to seek clinical care rather than attempt to push through on your own.
Medication for opioid use disorder, including methadone, is compatible with attending NA. You don’t have to choose one over the other.
You can read more about what detox involves and about methadone as a treatment option before deciding on the best fit for you.
