How NA Works in Huntersville

Narcotics Anonymous (NA) is free and run by its members without an intake process and no requirement for membership other than a desire to stop using drugs. Huntersville is in the Lake Norman Area of NA that is part of the Carolina Region.

  • NA area: Lake Norman Area of Narcotics Anonymous (LKN Area), covering Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson, the Lake Norman towns and Lincolnton. Schedules can be found at lnana.org.
  • Cost: Free, with no dues or fees.

Meetings In and Around Huntersville

Huntersville’s list of NA groups is short. However, the town is located near several other resources. The finder at the top of the page searches by distance rather than town line. This means that when you begin a search from Huntersville the results will include Cornelius and Davidson within minutes, Mooresville north up I-77, and Charlotte 14 miles south, which has the county’s widest range of NA meeting formats.

The formats in Huntersville are closed, discussion and candlelight meetings. Cornelius adds Basic Text and step study, and Charlotte adds beginner and women’s meetings.

For a beginner, women’s, men’s, young people’s or online meeting, ask the finder or the information line because schedules and venues can change. The Carolina Region has a 24/7 information line at 855-613-2762 and publishes the Lake Norman Area meeting schedule. For the rest of the state, see the North Carolina NA meetings directory.

Substance Use in Mecklenburg County

North Carolina recorded its first annual drop in overdose deaths since 2019 and the national count fell for a third straight year.

  • 69,973 provisional drug overdose deaths in the United States in 2025. This is down nearly 14% from 81,313 in 2024 and a third straight annual decline.
  • 2,934 drug overdose deaths in North Carolina in 2024, down 34% from 4,442 in 2023 and the state’s first decline since 2019.

Mecklenburg County Public Health reported in 2026 that calls to Mecklenburg EMS related to an opioid overdose were down 22% since 2024. Fentanyl mixed into other street drugs is the primary driver of these overdoses. The Charlotte NA meetings page publishes the county picture.

These are national and state figures since Huntersville doesn’t publish overdose rates for the city.

Getting Treatment In and Around Huntersville

Clinical treatment and NA meetings are two different options that support your efforts in your recovery journey. Many people in Huntersville use these together. Methadone, buprenorphine and naltrexone are the prescription medication standard of care for opioid use disorder treatment that is backed up by years of research. Using a prescription treatment has no bearing on your NA membership.

The town’s hospital is Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center on Gilead Road. North Mecklenburg has no opioid treatment program.  This means that to receive daily doses of methadone you must drive north to Mooresville or south into Charlotte.

  • Mooresville Comprehensive Treatment Center
Provides methadone, buprenorphine, Suboxone and Vivitrol.
  • McLeod Centers for Wellbeing
Opioid treatment programs in Charlotte and in Statesville.
  • Anuvia Prevention and Recovery Center
Withdrawal management and residential care at its Samuel Billings Center that can be reached at (704) 445-6900.
  • FindTreatment.gov
You can search licensed programs by ZIP code. The SAMHSA National Helpline at 1-800-662-4357 is free and answered 24 hours a day.

Naloxone Access in North Carolina

Getting naloxone in North Carolina does not require a prescription: any pharmacist licensed in the state can dispense it under the State Health Director’s standing order, and over-the-counter naloxone sits on pharmacy shelves as well (NC DHHS, Naloxone Saves NC). The medication works within minutes on an opioid overdose, and giving it to someone who turns out not to be overdosing does no harm.

State law protects the caller too. G.S. 90-96.2 gives limited immunity from certain possession charges to someone who seeks medical help in good faith during an overdose, and to the person who overdosed. Free naloxone and syringe services in Mecklenburg County are concentrated in Charlotte, and the Charlotte page lists them.

If You Need Help Immediately

Call 911 first if you think someone is overdosing. Give naloxone if you have it, and stay with them until responders arrive.

Yes. NA has no dues or fees. Groups pass a basket for rent and literature, and members give what they can or nothing.

What if there is no NA meeting in Huntersville today?
