Finding an NA Meeting in Baltimore
The meeting finder is built around proximity, so it shows meetings near the point you search rather than only meetings inside the Baltimore city line. This helps you find a meeting that’s conveniently located.
A meeting in a bordering community or closer to your workplace may fit your schedule better and will still show up in your results. Alongside Baltimore itself, you will often see meetings in nearby places such as Dundalk, Catonsville, Towson, Essex, Parkville, and Pikesville.
Baltimore has one of the fuller meeting schedules in Maryland. As of July 2026, there are more than 200 active NA meetings across the city and its surrounding communities, at a range of times through the week.
The mix includes open and closed meetings, beginner and newcomer meetings, discussion and speaker meetings, candlelight meetings, Basic Text and step study meetings, women’s meetings, men’s meetings, young people’s meetings, and meetings where children are welcome. Virtual meetings are also available if getting to a room is hard right now.
If you want help finding a meeting or have a question about the program, the Free State Region runs a 24-hour helpline at 1-800-317-3222. An open meeting welcomes anyone, including family members and people who are just curious about NA. A closed meeting is for people who use drugs or think they might have a problem with drugs.
Drug Use and Overdose in Baltimore
Overdose deaths have fallen sharply across the country and in Maryland over the past few years, and Baltimore has followed that trend. Wider access to naloxone, fentanyl test strips, and treatment is a large part of the reason. The figures below give the local picture. A single death can involve more than one substance, so category counts overlap.
Baltimore figures cover Baltimore City and are drawn from Maryland’s statewide Overdose Data Dashboard. Fentanyl remains the substance found in most opioid-related deaths in the state.
Treatment Options In and Near Baltimore
NA is an effective adjunct with professional addiction treatment, and many people use both. Depending on what is going on, the right next step might be medically supervised detox, inpatient or residential care, an intensive outpatient program, or standard outpatient counseling.
Baltimore has opioid treatment programs, detox providers, and outpatient clinics across the city, so options exist at every level of care. For opioid use disorder, the evidence-based standard is medication for opioid use disorder: methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone.
These medications reduce cravings and lower the risk of a fatal overdose, and they are meant to work together with peer support like NA, not in place of it. A doctor or treatment program can help you decide whether medication fits your situation.
To find nearby programs by type and insurance, use the federal locator at FindTreatment.gov, or call the free, confidential SAMHSA National Helpline at 1-800-662-4357, available 24 hours a day in English and Spanish.
Naloxone and Harm Reduction
Naloxone, sold as Narcan, reverses an opioid overdose and is safe to give even if you are not sure opioids are involved. In Maryland, you can get it several ways, most of them free:
- Baltimore City Health Department
https://www.baltimorecity.gov/health
Free naloxone and overdose-response training through the city’s Overdose Response Program. - Maryland pharmacies
Naloxone is available over the counter without a prescription under the state’s standing order. Ask the pharmacist. - Behavioral Health System Baltimore
https://www.bhsbaltimore.org/find-help/overdose-prevention/
Bmore POWER team will mail naloxone and fentanyl test strips free to anyone in Maryland. - NEXT Distro
https://nextdistro.org/maryland
Ships naloxone anywhere in the state to your home.
Maryland’s Good Samaritan Law offers protection from certain drug-possession charges when you call 911 for someone who is overdosing. Always call 911, even after giving naloxone, because its effect can wear off.
Note that naloxone does not reverse xylazine, which is now common in the local drug supply, so medical help is still needed. For more on recognizing and responding to an overdose, see our overdose and naloxone guide.
