Substance Use in Arizona and Maricopa County

Arizona is one of the few places where the national trend does not describe what’s happening locally. Overdose deaths fell almost everywhere in 2025, but Arizona was an exception.

• Almost 14% fewer drug overdose deaths occurred nationally in 2025 than in 2024, with an estimated 69,973 deaths compared with 81,313.
• Arizona experienced an increase of 10% or more in drug overdose deaths in 2025, while almost all other states saw decreases. Arizona was one of three states with increases of at least 10%, along with New Mexico and Colorado.

Getting Treatment In and Around Surprise

Meetings and clinical treatment are separate strategies during your recovery journey. Many people use both at once.
