How NA Works in Framingham

NA is a fellowship of people who meet regularly to help each other stop using drugs and stay stopped. It is free and there is no intake process. Meetings In and Around Framingham

Before you go, it is worth understanding what happens in a beginners meeting. Beginner meetings are aimed at people in their first days or weeks after they stop using drugs. For this reason, the format is slower, the language associated with NA is simpler, and meeting-goers are encouraged to ask questions. A search from Framingham typically returns groups in Natick and Marlborough, with more toward Newton and the inner suburbs as you widen out. The MetroWest Area schedule offers nine meetings a week. Additionally, the Boston Area schedule carries 65, so by widening the search radius, the picture is changed substantially.

Substance Use in Massachusetts

What is in the drug supply matters more than the total count for anyone deciding what precautions to take.

• 90 percent of Massachusetts opioid-related overdose deaths with a toxicology screen involved fentanyl, with cocaine present in 54 percent and xylazine in 9 percent. • 978 confirmed and estimated opioid-related overdose deaths among Massachusetts residents in 2025. This is the first year below 1,000 since 2013. Massachusetts Department of Public Health preliminary data, June 2026.

 These figures reflect statewide data as Massachusetts no longer publishes a standalone city and town death table. As a result, no Framingham-specific figure is available.

It is important to note that Xylazine, a sedative used in veterinary medicine, has been appearing in the illicit opioid supply since 2022. Unfortunately, naloxone does not reverse xylazine, but it still works on the opioids taken alongside it. This is why giving naloxone and calling 911 are both the right move.

Getting Treatment In and Around Framingham

Naloxone Access in Massachusetts

Naloxone is a life saving medication that reverses an opioid overdose. It is safe for a bystander to give, with no effect on someone who has not taken opioids. Massachusetts residents who want to keep this medication on hand can order a free kit delivered by mail through the state Department of Public Health, via the Massachusetts Substance Use Helpline. It can also be accessed with a prescription through a state licensed pharmacy that is required to keep it in stock.
