NA Meetings in Providence
As the state capital, Providence is the anchor of the NA scene for Rhode Island. Located in the center of the state’s most populous county, Providence offers a full weekly schedule of meetings. You’ll find meetings on various days and in different formats, so you have options as you look for the right fit.
People from smaller surrounding towns often look to Providence to provide greater options for scheduling and formats. You can see what’s available throughout Rhode Island for additional options.
What an NA Meeting Is Like
NA is simply a fellowship of individuals who desire to stop using drugs. Some meetings offer dicsussions, while other feature speakers. And many are step studies, which walk you through the 12 Steps of NA in detail.
Each of these formats can be open or closed. Anyone is welcome at an open meeting, including family members. Closed meetings are reserved for those who want to stop using drugs.
With any format, you aren’t required to speak or commit to anything. There’s no fee to pay or roster to sign. You can learn more about the fellowship on this Narcotics Anonymous page.
Online and In Person Options
Having a car is helpful to acces the various meetings throughout the city. And if you can get there, Cranston and Warwick both offer regular schedules of meetings just a short drive away.
If transportation is an issue or you simply want more scheduling options, online meetings offer flexible alternatives.
When a Meeting Isn’t Enough
NA offers support, but not medical care. Opioid and benzo withdrawal can pose serious medical risks. If you’re stopping these drugs, consult with a physician for guidance and care.
Any treatment program, including medication, is not at odds with NA attendance. Combining both types of support is common, so you don’t have to choose one or the other.
You can learn more about what detox involves and about methadone as a treatment option as you decide on next steps.
